By Jimmie Kairu.

Hip hop is an art, it is the ability of transforming a message to a particular group of people through words that trigger the mindset and make them interact.

Hip hop is a culture that enables the standard people draw attention to the majority... it gives hope to the future and educates, entertains and more so persuades people to a specific direction.

A fundamental thing that people do not know about hip hop is that it is a medium of change… yes I said it and I wrote it. Hip hop is a medium of change. It can be used to identify the social evils in society and give a solution on how people can make great decisions and execute them.

That not withstanding society can acquire far much more than whatever is on their mind as the clock ticks. The ability of one to express him or her self through spoken word, poetry, Graffiti art, Music and dress code is the major utility in the social realm.

What is the truth behind Hip Hop one may ask is it dead or alive? Is it a tool that can be used to communicate to the society plus can it impact change? In a documentary set to be released before the end of this year, dubbed ‘Ukame kwa Street’ (Drought in the Streets), Hip hop is defined as a tool that can show case social evils and revamp behavior from worse to better.

The documentary showcases the ability of every hip hop artist in the slum areas of Kenya and the suburbs on how they influence change on their own people. It was through this that James Kairu and Sherry Kamau came up with such a splendid idea of doing what they thought best and advocating truth before time.

Every end of the month the British Council Kenya holds a concert that gives a platform to upcoming Hip hop talent, through the inaugural occasion which is colored by graffiti art, Spoken word, rap Music and basically Hip hop as a culture.

The whole idea was developed so as to bring together underground artists who are to support each other and at least bring them to the lime light. The event dubbed words and Pictures ( W.A.P.I ) is a set combination of expression and talent.

Even though Hip Hop is set to educate people, it goes to the extremes of being a suitable label for respect that is earned and not gained, through this retrospect, one party may decide to use the other party as an example something that will definitely cause a misunderstanding and profoundly leading to beef.

Beef is all part and person of hip-hop beef is energized by one party’s capacity of obtaining respect for it is not give in that easily. Beef is a progarotory term that people in conflict and might take their bile to the grave but it also taught the whole world that music is just an influence and hip-hop was banned.

It Is not for the major suburb kids nor for the poor and those living in poverty, nowadays the rich adore hip hop and tailor it to their needs…

To be cont…….

Red Berets 0 Thika United 1

Thika United extended their lead at the top of the table by two points after a hard fought 1-0 win over Red Berets at Sher Karuturi ground in Naivasha.

Denis Odhiambo scored the all-important goal in the 51st minute with a big shot from 30 metres out.

Later, United manager John Kamau said their aim was to keep up the current pace during the first leg and then go full blast in the second to grab the league title they have narrowly missed in the past.

Red Berets found themselves having to look for an alternative stadium after their Greensteads Preparatory School, Nakuru, open field was discontinued by the KPL after crowd trouble involving another home team, Ulinzi Stars and the visiting Gor Mahia of Nairobi.
